Five Months Into Presidency, Sean Spicer Says He Hasn’t Spoken To Trump About Russia Hack

The Trump administration’s complete disinterest in the threat Russia poses to the United States took another bizarre step Tuesday.
During the White House press briefing Tuesday, Sean Spicer was asked if Donald Trump believes that the Russians interfered in the 2016 election.
And Spicer’s answer was that – 5 months into his presidency – he hasn’t had a chance to talk to Trump about it.
Here is a transcript of the exchange:
“I have not sat down and talked to him about that specific thing,” Spicer said at his daily briefing. “Obviously we’ve been dealing with a lot of other issues today. I’d be glad to touch base and—”
“There’s 16 intelligence agencies that say that they did,” a reporter interrupted. “The former FBI director said that without a doubt the Russians interfered.”
“I understand, I’ve seen the reports,” Spicer replied.
“Does the President share those views?” the reporter pressed.
“I have not sat down and asked him about his specific reaction to them,” Spicer replied. “I’d be glad to touch base with him and get back to you.”
“Didn’t he say it was fake news, Sean? Didn’t the President say that Russia was fake news?” another reporter asked.
Spicer’s comments are just the latest example of the Trump administration taking a dangerously ignorant view of the threat Russia poses.
During his Senate testimony, former FBI Director James Comey confirmed that despite having at least 9 meetings or phone calls with him, Trump never once asked any questions about the threat that Russia poses or what the United States could do to defend itself.
Comey noted having several conversations with President Obama on the topic but indicated that Donald Trump showed no interest.
Attorney General Jeff Sessions also testified last week to the Senate that he has never had a briefing on the issue of the Russian hack.
