Republican Karen Handel Defeats Democrat Jon Ossoff In Georgia Congressional Race
Republican Karen Handel defeated Democrat Jon Ossoff in Georgia’s 6th Congressional District.
The race has been the most expensive House race in history, after the seat that has been in the hands of the Republicans since 1979 was being challenged on the left.
In the primary on April 18, Ossoff came in first place with 48.8 percent – just shy of the 50 percent threshold to win the race outright.
Handel’s predecessor won in November by 23 points, while she won tonight by only five points.
The contested seat exacerbated the flaws in the Republican Party, which all pointed to Trump. His presence loomed in the race, and Handel did a lot to barely even mention his name.
