Mike Rogers, Dan Coats Confirm To Special Counsel Trump Asked Them To Intervene In Russia Case
Special Counsel Mueller Interviewed Rogers and Coats About Trump Obstruction Incidents.
Donald Trump asked that two top intelligence officials publicly say there was no collusion between his campaign and the Russians, adding evidence to the obstruction of justice case against him.
According to a report by CNN citing multiple sources, two of the nation’s top intelligence officials told special counsel Robert Mueller’s team and Senate investigators about the president’s suggestion they publically speak out for him.
The CNN report notes that the comments from the intelligence officials came last week in separate interviews.
Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats and National Security Agency Director Mike Rogers told investigators about their interactions with Trump as being “odd and uncomfortable,” CNN reported.
“Sources say both men went further than they did in June 7 public hearings, when they provided little detail about the interactions,” CNN noted.
During private meetings in March, just a few days after James Comey publically confirmed the FBI investigation into collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia.
“Rogers’ interaction with the President is also documented in a memo written by his deputy at the NSA, Richard Ledgett,” CNN notes.
