Nevada Senator Dean Heller just announced that he will not vote for the current Senate health bill.
During a press conference Friday Heller said, “I’m announcing today that in this form I will not support it.”
Specifically, Heller called out his concerns about the bill’s Medicaid cuts saying that it would hurt hundreds of thousand of people in Nevada who depend on Medicaid.
It’s going to be very difficult to get me to a yes,” Heller said Friday.
“You have to protect Medicaid expansion states. That’s what I want,” he added.
Heller is the first moderate Republican to announce a no vote on the GOP bill. Senators Susan Collins and Lisa Murkowski are also thought to be likely no votes.
Four conservative senators (Rand Paul, Ron Johnson, Mike Lee and Ted Cruz) announced their opposition on Thursday but it is expected that most will eventually vote for the bill in exchange for conservative amendments.
