FBI Questioned Carter Page Over Russian Ties

The Washington Post reported that Carter Page, former Trump campaign advisor, has met with the FBI five times since March – totaling about 10 hours of interviews – to discuss his ties to Russia.

Page continued to deny any wrongdoing, according to a person familiar with Page’s account, when the FBI asked if he was a go-between for Russia and the Trump campaign.

Page confirmed Monday that the interviews did occur, calling them “extensive discussions.” However, he declined to say how long he has been talking to the FBI.

He stated that the FBI agents “acknowledged that I’m a loyal American veteran but indicated that their management was concerned that I did not believe the conclusions” of Russian interference in the U.S. election.

Page continued, “Our frank and open conversations gave me confidence that there are still logical, honest individuals at the Bureau who respect civil rights and the Constitution.”

Page’s interviews with the FBI are currently “the most extensive known questioning of a potential suspect” in the Russia investigation.

Page was one of the first Americans to come under scrutiny in the Russia investigation. He worked in Russia for Merrill Lynch about ten years ago, and would criticize U.S. sanctions on Russia.

He has also been the subject of a foreign intelligence surveillance court order since the beginning of the summer of 2016, according to the Washington Post.

Although the FBI has spent months interviewing Page, it is unknown if the FBI learned anything new.
