Trump Regularly Confuses Medicaid And Medicare: Report

Donald Trump lacks a basic understanding of the Republican health care bill he is trying to get Congress to pass, several new reports suggest.

The reports over the last few days suggest that congressional Republicans and members of the administration are frustrated with Donald Trump’s lack of understanding of key policy issues.

According to a new report by the New York Times, a Republican Senator who spoke with the Times said that Donald Trump gave the impression that he “did not have a grasp of some basic elements of the Senate plan.”

The GOP Senator also noted that and that Trump was “especially confused” by the idea of opponents calling the bill “a massive tax break for the wealthy.”

Others have described Donald Trump as uninterested in the particulars of health care.

And according to a report by The Daily Beast, Trump regularly mixes up Medicare and Medicaid.

“There would be times when he would describe what was clearly Medicare…but say Medicaid, and when we pointed that out, he would say, ‘That’s what I said, Medicare and Medicaid.”

When asked if the Donald Trump had a basic understanding of the Republican health care bill, “one official—who works closely with the president on health-care policy, replied initially with a few moments of light chuckling—before answering ‘not to my knowledge.'”

The Daily Beast report also highlights an especially scary issue with Donald Trump – no one wants to correct him out of fear.

“The former aide added that campaign staff would move on instead of lecturing or drilling in the policy specifics with Trump because those details weren’t important to the debate prep or his rallies, and that no one wanted to risk making him look ‘dumb,'” the report noted.
