Americans Trust CNN More Than Donald Trump: Poll

Americans have more trust in media institutions than in Donald Trump, a new Survey Monkey poll finds.

According to a new Survey Monkey poll, Americans have more trust media outlets like CNN, The Washington Post, and The New York Times than they do in Donald Trump.

The poll, which was first reported by Axios, finds a dramatic gap in the trust Americans have between media institutions and the president.

The poll results come as Donald Trump has reignited his war with the media.

The results, however, are largely split down party lines with 89 percent of Republicans viewing Trump as more trustworthy than CNN.

At the same time, 91 percent of Democrats trust CNN over Donald Trump. Independents trust CNN more by 15 over Donald Trump.

Among all adults, trust for CNN is 7 points higher than trust in Trump.

When asked whether they Trust Donald Trump or The New York Times and Washington Post more, Americans said they trust the newspapers more than Trump by 9 points.

And Americans trust television news networks ABC/CBS/NBC more than Donald Trump by an 11 point margin.

Other key numbers from the poll:

  • 33% of Republicans say they get their news only from Fox News
  • 64% of all adults disapprove of Donald Trump’s use of Twitter

About the poll: The online poll by Survey Monkey was taken from June 29 to July 3 and surveyed 4,965 adults, with a margin of error of plus or minus 2.5 percentage points.
