Advisers Trying Desperately To Prevent Trump From Meeting Alone With Putin: Report
Donald Trump’s advisers are trying desperately to prevent him from meeting alone with Vladamir Putin during his trip to the G-20 summit this week.
According to a report by The Daily Beast, senior officials in the Trump administration are pressing for Trump to include Fiona Hill, who is a senior director for the National Security Council, to attend the meeting with Putin.
Hill is a Russia expert and a vocal Putin critic.
According to the report, administration officials see Hill’s presence at the meeting between Trump and Putin on Friday as necessary to avoid the appearance that the president is too eager to establish a too friendly relationship with Putin.
The Trump administration officials want who spoke with The Daily Beast are hoping to avoid a meeting like the one Trump had in the Oval Office with Russian diplomats. During that meeting, Trump bragged about firing James Comey and shared highly classified intelligence with the Russian diplomats.
The report by The Daily Beast that Trump officials are trying to prevent him from meeting alone with Putin comes after a New York Times report that revealed Trump aides are very concerned about the meeting.
