Republican Senator Says She’s Willing To Be The One Who Kills GOP Health Bill
West Virginia Senator Shelley Moore Capito has said she is willing to be the one who kills the GOP health bill if it comes down to her.
Capito previously announced her opposition to the Obamacare repeal plan.
“I only see it through the lens of a vulnerable population who needs help, who I care about very deeply,” she said during an interview with Politico that was published Sunday.
“So that gives me strength. If I have to be that one person, I will be it.”
Capito represents the state of West Virginia which voted overwhelmingly for Donald Trump but would also be disproportionately hit by the Republican plans Medicaid cuts.
The Medicaid cuts are one of the main factors for Capito, according to Politico.
The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) analysis found that 22 million people would lose their health insurance if the GOP bill becomes law, compared to Obamacare remaining in place.
Senator Capito is one of at least 9 Republican Senators who have announced they intend to vote no on the existing GOP health plan.
