Chris Christie’s Approval Rating Just Hit A New Low After Beach-Gate
It looks like Chris Christie’s beach-gate scandal just got worse. According to a new poll, Christie’s already rock bottom approval numbers just got even lower.
Christie faced an immense backlash after photos revealed he and his family enjoyed New Jersey state beach that were closed to the public because of a government shutdown.
On Monday, a new Monmouth University poll found that just 15 percent of New Jersey adults think Christie is doing a good job as governor, matching numbers reported by Quinnipiac University last month.
And massive 80 percent disapprove of Christie’s performance, according to the Monmouth poll.
Republicans in New Jersey give Christie an approval rating of just 30 percent, while only 7 percent of Democrats approve of Christie.
And 55 percent of those polled said they felt the state was worse off than when Christie became governor; only 15 percent say the state is better off.
Interestingly, the poll asked respondents about photos of Christie sitting on the beach he closed as part of a government shutdown and 86 percent said they had seen the photos.
And 66 percent of those who saw the photos said they had a negative reaction toward the pictures, with “disgust” being the word most commonly used – 6 percent used profanity in describing the incident.
Here is an awesome word cloud of the words people used to respond to the photos:
About the poll: The Monmouth University poll surveyed 800 New Jersey adults over the phone from July 6 to 9 and has a margin of error of 3.5 percentage points.
