Hackers Have Been Stealing Credit Card Numbers From Trump’s Hotels For Months
Hide your wallets around these guys.
If you’ve stayed at a Trump hotel recently (I know, who the hell would stay at a Trump hotel) you should probably call your credit card company because apparently, hackers have been stealing information from customers at 14 Trump hotels for months.
The organization announced on Tuesday that hackers gained access to “cardholder name, payment card number, card expiration date, and potentially card security code” information for guests who stayed at Trump hotels between August 2016 and March 2017.
According to The Washington Post, “The news of the latest cybersecurity attack comes less than a year after Trump International Hotels Management paid $50,000 in penalties to New York state for failing to notify customers immediately after earlier data breaches led to the exposure of more than 70,000 credit card numbers and 300 Social Security numbers. The company also agreed to update its security practices as a result of the settlement.”
The first time hackers breached Trump’s payment processing system was in 2014. The hacker installed malware on the Trump hotel’s networks so they could lift credit card information of customers.
And a second breach occurred at in November of 2015 when hackers again installed malware on the systems of five Trump hotels. “Four months later, in March, an attacker tapped into a legacy payment system that included personal information of Trump hotel property owners, including the names and Social Security numbers of more than 300 people,” The Washington Post notes.
