House Democrat Officially Files Articles Of Impeachment Against Trump
It’s official, articles of impeachment have been filed against Donald Trump.
Democrat Congressman Brad Sherman formally introduced an article of impeachment against Donald Trump on Wednesday accusing the president of obstructing justice during the federal investigation of Russia’s 2016 election interference.
Sherman argues that Donald Trump’s firing of James Comey as FBI director in May, and his later admission that the firing was because of the Russia investigation, amounts to obstructing justice during an investigation into whether Trump’s campaign colluded with the Russian government during the election.
The impeachment article cites Comey’s testimony that Trump pressured him to drop the FBI’s investigation into former national security adviser Michael Flynn.
The Trump administration originally said that Comey was fired because of the recommendation of the Deputy Attorney General, however, Donald Trump later admitted during an interview with NBC that he fired Comey over the Russia investigation.
“In all of this, Donald John Trump has acted in a manner contrary to his trust as president and subversive of constitutional government, to the great prejudice of the cause of law and justice and to the manifest injury of the people of the United States. Wherefore, Donald John Trump, by such conduct, warrants impeachment and trial, and removal from office,” the article of impeachment states.
