Jeff Sessions Talked About The Campaign With The Russian Ambassador: Report
BREAKING
US intelligence intercepts of Russian communications confirm that Jeff Sessions discussed campaign related matters with the Russian ambassador during the campaign.
According to a bombshell report by the Washington Post, “One U.S. official said that Sessions — who testified that he has no recollection of an April encounter — has provided “misleading” statements that are “contradicted by other evidence.” A former official said that the intelligence indicates that Sessions and Kislyak had “substantive” discussions on matters including Trump’s positions on Russia-related issues and prospects for U.S.-Russia relations in a Trump administration.”
This report directly contradicts Jeff Sessions’ sworn testimony before Congress.
In March, Sessions said, “I never had meetings with Russian operatives or Russian intermediaries about the Trump camp.”
The intercepts indicate that Sessions, in fact, had substantive campaign related interaction with the Russians during the campaign. And while it is possible that the Russian ambassador mischaracterized his interaction with Sessions, the Post report notes that “U.S. officials with regular access to Russian intelligence reports say Kislyak — whose tenure as ambassador to the United States ended recently — has a reputation for accurately relaying details about his interactions with officials in Washington.”
Based on the intercepts, the conversations included discussions on U.S.-Russia relations under a Trump administration and Trump’s positions on Russia-related issues.
Sessions initially failed to disclose that he met with Kislyak during the campaign, and then denied that the meetings were anything more than standard discussions in his capacity as a U.S. senator.
