Bipartisan Group Of Governors Call On Republicans To Reject ‘Skinny Repeal’
Governors urge Senate to vote no on “skinny repeal.”
A bipartisan group of 10 governors sent a letter to the leaders of the Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and Minority Leader Chuck Schumer urging Senate Republicans to reject the so-called “skinny repeal.”
In their letter, the governors write that the so-called “skinny repeal” is “is expected to accelerate health plans leaving the individual market, increase premiums, and result in fewer Americans having access to coverage.”
“Instead, we ask senators to work with governors on solutions to problems we can all agree on: fixing our unstable insurance markets,” the governors said.
“Improvements should be based on a set of guiding principles, which include controlling costs and stabilizing the market, that will positively impact the coverage and care of millions of Americans, including many who are dealing with mental illness, chronic health problems, and drug addiction,” the letter continues.
The Republican Governors who signed the letter are John Kasich (Ohio), Phil Scott (Vt.), Larry Hogan (Md.), Charles Baker (Mass.) and Brian Sandoval (Nev.).
CBO analysis finds “skinny repeal” would be devastating
The Congressional Budget Office released its analysis of the “skinny repeal” of Obamacare on Wednesday finding that it would cause 16 million to lose health insurance.
The bill would also lead to massive increases in premiums of 20 percent per year.
