Joint Chiefs Of Staff Just Threw Cold Water On Trump’s Transgender Troop Ban

Looks like you can’t actually set military policy by tweet.

Donald Trump announcement Wednesday that transgender Americans would no longer be allowed to serve their country “in any capacity” was not met with much support from military and Congressional leaders.

And now, just one day later, the Joint Chiefs of Staff are telling the military to essentially disregard Trump’s announcement.

The Joint Chiefs of Staff have informed the military that no changes in policy will be made until the president gives formal direction to Secretary of Defense.

Reuters reporter Idrees Ali tweeted, “US Joint Chiefs of Staff tells military there will be no modification to transgender policy until direction received from [president].”

Ali also reported that General Joseph Dunford, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, sent out a letter informing the military that it should “continue to treat all of our personnel with respect.”
