Majority of Americans Support Transgender Military Service: Poll
New poll confirms Americans disagree strongly with Trump’s trans military ban.
According to a new Reuters/Ipsos opinion poll released that was released Friday, a strong majority of Americans disagree with Donald Trump’s new ban on transgender military service.
The poll found that 58 percent of Americans agree with the statement “Transgender people should be allowed to serve in the military.”
The poll was in the field from July 26 and July 28, after Donald Trump announced that he would be banning all transgender personnel from the military.
Despite Trump’s Twitter pronouncement, the Joint Chiefs of Staff don;t have any intention of kicking out trans soldiers anytime soon.
One person who participated in the poll said, “Even the president shouldn’t be able to take rights away from some people just because he may not like them.”
“They’re people too. Unless they’re causing problems, they should serve just like anybody else.”
About the poll: The Reuters/Ipsos opinion poll was conducted online in English across the United States. It gathered responses from 1,249 adults including 533 Democrats and 434 Republicans. It has a credibility interval, a measure of accuracy, of 3 percentage points for the entire group and 5 percentage points for Democrats and Republicans.
