Racist Sheriff Found Guilty In Racial-Profiling Case

Not a great day in Trumpland.

Former Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio was found guilty of criminal contempt of court by a U.S. District Court judge on Monday.

The conviction comes after Arpaio defied a court’s order to end racial profiling practices in his department.

Arpaio will be sentenced in October for the misdemeanor and could face up to six months in prison.

The charge stemmed from a 2011 court order issued by U.S. District Court Judge Murray Snow requiring Arpaio to stop racially profiling Latinos in his Maricopa County office.

Arpaio was found to have disobeyed that court order.

Judge Snow said Arpaio disobeyed the order to help his 2012 reelection campaign.

Arpaio was a vocal supporter of Donald Trump’s presidential campaign.

However, Arpaio lost his bid for reelection in 2016 to Democrat Paul Penzone ending his 24-year stretch as sheriff.
