McCain: Obamacare Repeal Bill Would Have ‘Screwed’ My State
John McCain just revealed why he voted against the Obamacare repeal bill last week – and it makes a lot of sense.
During an interview on a Phoenix radio station, McCain said “Arizona was about to get screwed, if I may, under this plan.”
Arizona is facing “very serious problems,” McCain said, specifically listing higher premiums and deductibles as well as having only one insurer in the state’s healthcare marketplace.
McCain wanted to make some specific changes to the bill however that didn’t happen.
“I had no input frankly as to how it was going to be fixed, McCain said, “except to vote yes or no once it came out of the conference.”
And when you think about it, McCain’s argument makes a lot of sense. The bill would hurt his state, so he voted no. The more important question is why so many Republican Senators voted for a bill that would hurt their own constituents.
The CBO analysis found that the final Republican bill would have caused at least 16 million people to lose their health insurance.
McCain joined Susan Collins and Lisa Murkowski who were strong no votes throughout the process.
