Carter Page Has Been Under Surveillance Since 2014: Report
Donald Trump campaign adviser Carter Page has been under secret surveillance US intelligence officials since 2014, according to a report by CNN Thursday.
It is likely that Page is being investigated by the United States Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court, authorized by the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act of 1978.
CNN reports that “When information emerged last summer suggesting that the Russians were attempting to cultivate Page as a way to gain an entrée into the Trump campaign, the FBI renewed its interest in him. Initially, FBI counterintelligence investigators saw the campaign as possible victims being targeted by Russian intelligence.”
The revelations about Carter Page were part of a larger bombshell report that Special Counsel Mueller is investigating Donald Trump for possible financial crimes, including ones unrelated to Russia.
It was also reported Thursday by The Wall Street Journal and Reuters that Mueller has impaneled a new grand jury in Washington D.C. and that subpoenas have been issued by the grand jury.
According to Reuters, the subject of the subpoenas is Donald Trump Jr.’s 2016 meeting in Trump Tower with a Russian lawyer offering support from the Russian government.
