Trump Asked Sessions To Drop Arpaio Case Months Ago: Report

Smells a lot like obstruction of justice.

We are getting more details about the history behind Donald Trump’s pardon of Sheriff Joe Arpaio. The Washington Post reported Saturday that in the early days of his presidency, Donald Trump asked Attorney General Jeff Sessions if the Justice Department could drop the case against Arpaio.

Trump was advised that such a move would not be “appropriate.”

Trump decided at the time to let the case go to trial and that if Arpaio was convicted, he would grant him a pardon.

Arpaio was found guilty of contempt of criminal contempt of court after he refused to follow an order that he stop racially profiling people he thought might be undocumented immigrants.

The Washington Post report comes just one day after Donald Trump pardoned Arpaio.

Trump’s pardon of Arpaio has drawn swift criticism from both Democrats and Republicans.

John McCain issued a statement saying Trump’s pardon of Arpaio “undermines his claim for the respect of rule of law.”
