Manafort’s Notes From Trump Tower Russia Meeting Reference ‘Donations’ to RNC
Notes taken by Manafort during 2016 Trump Tower meeting with Russian lawyer reference “donations” to RNC.
Paul Manafort’s notes from the now infamous Trump Tower meeting with a Kremlin linked lawyer promising help from the Russian government to the Trump campaign include a cryptic reference to “donations” next to notes about the RNC.
The revelation comes from a new NBC News report that notes “The references, which have not been previously disclosed, elevated the significance of the June 2016 meeting for congressional investigators, who are focused on determining whether it included any discussion of donations from Russian sources to either the Trump campaign or the Republican Party.”
Campaigns are not allowed to accept money from foreigners or foreign governments so if the meeting was about ways for Russians to funnel money to the RNC that could result in a conspiracy charge.
“Manafort’s notes, typed on a smart phone and described by one briefed source as cryptic, were turned over to the House and Senate intelligence committees and to Special Counsel Robert Mueller. They contained the words “donations,” and “RNC” in close proximity, the sources said,” NBC went on to report.
In addition to Manafort, the meeting was attended by Jared Kushner and Donald Trump Jr.
Subsequent reporting has revealed that the Special Counsel is now investigating whether Donald Trump intentionally put out a misleading statement through his son about the meeting.
