Trump’s Lawyers Try to Undermine Comey’s Credibility in Obstruction Case

Trump’s lawyers are trying to defend Donald Trump by attacking James Comey’s character.

According to sources close to the case who spoke to the Wall Street Journal, Trump’s legal team submitted a memo to Robert Mueller in June that claimed Comey was an “unreliable witness.”

They say he is “prone to exaggeration, unreliable in congressional testimony and the source of leaks to the news media.”

Trump’s lawyer are forgetting one major consideration, though. Comey has always been known as someone with a lot of integrity – on both sides of the aisle.

Trump’s lawyers also tried to defend Trump’s reasoning for firing Comey, saying he did not obstruct justice because he “has the inherent authority under the constitution to hire and fire as he sees fit.”

However, Trump doesn’t have the authority to “hire and fire as he sees fit” if the motive is to obstruct an ongoing federal investigation.

Trump’s lawyers are grasping at straws, and are starting to lose any grasp on the Russia investigation. As more evidence starts to build, it will be harder and harder for Trump’s lawyers to defend him.
