Mueller Raid On Manafort’s House Led To Evidence Not Covered In Search Warrant: Report
The noose is tightening on Paul Manafort.
According to a new report by CNN, the early morning raid on Manafort’s Washington area home in July may have led to the acquisition of evidence that was not covered under the search warrant.
This new revelation could mean additional legal trouble for Manafort that could have far reaching consequences for others in the Russia investigation, namely Donald Trump himself.
The strategy being carried out by Special Counsel Mueller is to build cases against associates of Donald Trump who could, in turn, make deals to avoid jail time in exchange for testimony against Trump.
The report also indicates that Congressional committees and the Special Counsel investigations are largely out of step. In fact, prior to the raid on Manafort’s home, “Lawyers working with a team led by special counsel Robert Mueller approached the Senate intelligence committee this summer with a request: They wanted the transcript of an interview Senate staff had conducted with former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort.”
However, Mueller’s request was blocked. “Manafort’s lawyers said they had not authorized Mueller’s legal team to access the interview transcript under the agreement with the committee, even though Mueller’s attorneys said they had been given permission.”
This new report suggests that the raid on Manafort’s home came because Special Counsel investigators didn’t have confidence that they would get access to evidence turned up by Congressional committees.
