Facebook Is Now Cooperating With Special Counsel On Russian Ads
Social media giant has handed over data relating to Russian ads to Special Counsel
Facebook has handed over data relating to advertising purchased by Russian election hackers to the Special Counsel investigators.
According to Reuters, “on Wednesday that the social media giant had sent the former FBI director data including copies of the ads and the identity of the buyers. That report followed news that an internal Facebook investigation found it is agents of the Kremlin may have spent $100,000 on ads with “divisive messages” between June 2015 and May 2017.”
The Special Counsel is investigating Russia’s attack on the 2016 election and the role of any Trump associates who worked with the Russians in their efforts.
According to Facebook, the Russians ran at least 3,000 ads associated with 470 fake accounts over a two year period.
An internal Facebook investigation found that it is “likely” Russian operatives spent $100,000 on ads with “divisive messages.”
