Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin Under Investigation For Private Jet Use
Another Trump administration official is under scrutiny for private jet travel.
Investigators at the Treasury Department are now investigating an August 15 private jet trip taken by Secretary Steve Mnuchin from New York to Washington, D.C., according to ABC News.
According to ABC, Mnuchin flew up to New York commercially and returned to Washington on an Air Force C-37 jet, which took less than an hour. “Mnuchin and Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao, who also flew on that government jet, flanked the president during his remarks,” ABC notes.
The news that the Treasury Secretary is being investigated for possible abuse of private jet travel comes news reports reveal that multiple Trump administration officials have been opting to fly on private jets on the taxpayer dime.
Both Education Secretary Betsy DeVos and Health and Human Services Secretary Tom Price, have come under fire for not flying commercial.
And this is not the first time that Mnuchin has been investigated for his private jet travel. The Treasury Department’s inspector general is also investigating a trip taken to Kentucky by Mnuchin and his wife Louise Linton using government airplane.
In an earlier report, ABC revealed earlier this month that Mnuchin had also requested to use a government jet on his European honeymoon this summer.
In addition to Mnuchin, Health and Human Services Secretary Tom Price has also come under fire for 24 private just trips costing taxpayers at least $300,000.
