Tom Price Took Private Jet To Have Lunch With His Son On Taxpayer Dime

HHS Secretary used a government-funded jet to travel to his visit colleagues and his family.

The scandal surrounding Health and Human Resources Secretary Tom Price’s use of private jet travel broke open Tuesday after it was revealed that Price used the jet for personal travel.

According to a new report by Politico, Tom Price used a taxpayer-funded private jet for personal travel several times, including once to have lunch with his son.

As Politico reports, Price “took a government-funded private jet in August to get to St. Simons Island, an exclusive Georgia resort where he and his wife own land, a day and a half before he addressed a group of local doctors at a medical conference that he and his wife have long attended.”

The trip to have lunch with his son was one of two trips that were paid for by the taxpayers where Price traveled to places he owns property.

Price is currently being investigated for his use of a government-funded private jet for business travel which breaks precedent with previous HHS secretaries who took commercial flights rather than fly private. Price’s private jet travel has cost taxpayers at least $300,000, according to previous reports.

During one trip on June 6, Price used a private jet costing taxpayers $17,760. According to Politico, commercial airline tickets with government discounts would have cost between $102 and $333 per person roundtrip.
