On her show Thursday night, Rachel Maddow revealed how the top Senate Republicans leading the Russia investigation have been lying about the Trump-Russia dossier. Specifically, over the dossier’s author supposedly refusing to meet with their Senate committees.
Maddow walked through point by point how a significant majority of Steele’s dossier has ended up being proven correct, through publically available reporting.
Maddow noted as an example that the dossier claimed Russia was behind the hack of the DNC, which was very quickly proven correct – as we all saw during the campaign.
Another example Maddow pointed out is the efforts by Donald Trump and his business to aggressively pursue real estate deals in Moscow during the campaign. Again proven to be true.
“So, a lot of this he did dead rights,” Maddow said.
“A lot of this that seemed nuts when we read this published in January. Since then it has been reported out and proven.”
Later in the segment, Maddow noted, “So there is this dossier saying that the Trump campaign and the Russians were in cahoots involved in a conspiracy of operation to help put Trump — put a foreign thumb on the scale to get Trump in office.”
“You got to brief Trump on how you found out what parts of that were true? Who might he tell once you told him?”
Then Maddow noted yesterday’s press conference with the Senate Intelligence Committee‘s Richard Burr (R-NC) and Mark Warner (D-VA). During the press conference, Burr said that despite being able to corroborate much of the dossier they have “hit a wall” because they haven’t been able to speak with Steele.
Maddow also noted that Republican Senator Chuck Grassley has said that anyone citing the dossier is outright wrong and should be held accountable.
However, CNN and NBC both reported Thursday that Mueller has already met with Steele about his dossier.
Maddow then broke news by reporting that, in fact, Steele – through an intermediary – has offered to meet with the Senate investigators.
“So, there may be a continuing political interest in Washington in trying to make the Christopher Steele dossier seem like a scandal or seem like an unplumbable depth that we’ll never be able to understand and nobody will ever be able to investigate,” Maddow said.
