As Death Toll Spikes, Trump Threatens To Abandon Puerto Rico
3.5 million Americans at risk as Trump threatens to cut and run in Puerto Rico.
On Wednesday Vox reported that by their analysis the death toll in Puerto Rico may be 10 times higher than the official number released by the government.
According to Governor Ricardo Rosselló, the official death toll in Puerto Rico is 45.
However, according to the Vox report, the real number could be closer to 450.
Additionally, we are starting to see evidence that the situation is getting worse, not better. On Wednesday, we saw the first official reports of people dying because of drinking dirty water. Essentially, people who have been waiting three weeks for fresh water to arrive have been drinking from contaminated water sources. And some of those people are getting sick.
In addition to the spiking death toll, 84 percent of Puerto Rico still has no electricity, 80 percent of cell towers still aren’t working and 37 percent of Puerto Ricans still don’t have clean drinking water.
So under these circumstances, one would think that Donald Trump would want to step up his administration’s efforts to provide relief in Puerto Rico.
Well, one would be wrong about that.
In a series of tweets Thursday morning, Trump indicated that his administration would be winding down the federal government’s relief efforts.
