Trump Signs Executive Order Gutting Obamacare
The executive order will undermine the insurance markets.
After repeated failures to repeal Obamacare in Congress, Donald Trump signed an executive order Thursday that will gut the Affordable Care Act.
President Trump, in a move to undermine Obamacare, signed on Thursday an executive order that will likely throw insurance markets into chaos.
At the crux of the order is a provision that will allow healthy people to buy cheaper, substandard health care plans. And as a result, undermining the insurance market for the broader population.
Without healthy and young people in the insurance market, prices will spike for people with chronic illnesses and elderly populations.
Health experts warn that these substandard health plans also have a surprise element because in the event of a serious illness the insurance plans won’t cover their illness.
The executive order is just the latest effort by Donald Trump to sabotage the Affordable Care Act. It was reported that the Trump administration has massively cut advertising budgets meant to remind people to sign up for health plans before the deadline. Additionally, the Trump administration has decided to shut down the signup website for one full day a week during the enrollment period.
