Trump Thanked Bannon for Waging War on GOP
Donald Trump may have fired Steve Bannon from the White House, but they are still keeping an open line of communication.
Two people familiar with the call told The Wall Street Journal that Trump called Bannon to encouraged him for saying that Republicans who don’t support Trump’s agenda should be ousted.
Bannon appeared on Fox News earlier this week saying he is seeking to line up challengers to GOP incumbents.
“There’s a coalition coming together that is going to challenge every Republican incumbent except for Ted Cruz,” Bannon said during the Monday night interview on “Hannity.”
White House adviser Jared Kushner also reportedly texted Bannon his praise after the interview.
Bannon has continued this speech at the Values Voter Summit, an annual social conservative conference.
He told attendees to keep up the fight against the “imperial” political class.
“It’s not my war, this is our war and y’all didn’t start it, the establishment started it,” Bannon said.
Bannon’s War Has Already Begun
Bannon secured an early victory after throwing his support behind former judge Roy Moore in the Alabama Senate GOP runoff last month.
Trump was campaigning for Luther Strange at the urging of Republican congressional leadership, since Strange was a more establishment candidate.
But Moore’s primary win is just the beginning of Bannon’s war on the GOP.
