Fox News Featured Pro-Trump ‘War Hero’ Who Never Actually Served In Vietnam
John Garofalo lied about being a Navy SEAL and serving in Vietnam, Fox News did a feature on him.
Fox News recently did a feature on a “war hero” to display his pro-Trump artwork.
The cable news network enthusiastically featured John Garofalo’s artwork and lauded his highly awarded seven-year service as a Navy SEAL including service in Vietnam.
Fox News noted that Garofalo received 22 commendations for his service in Vietnam – including two Purple Hearts.
The Fox News reporter Bryan Llenas called Garofalo a “hero” and a “tough, tough man.”
“He was listed twice during his service in Vietnam as missing in action,” Llenas also noted.
But here’s the thing – Garofalo made the whole thing up.
He was never in Vietnam. He was never a Navy SEAL.
When Garofalo was contacted by the Navy Times, he admitted that he made the whole thing up.
“What I did I’m ashamed of, and I didn’t mean to cause so much disgrace to the SEALs,” he told the Times.
Since then, Fox News has removed the viral video and issued a statement apologizing for the error.
According to the Navy Times, “Records show Garofalo did serve in the Navy from Sept. 6, 1963, to Sept. 6, 1967, as an aviation boatswain’s mate ― aircraft handling, or ABH, a job that involves overseeing various ground-based functions involving aircraft. The closest he ever got to Vietnam was a tour in Rota, Spain.”
