Who Is Rick Gates?
Rick Gates was indicted along with Paul Manafort Monday.
In addition to Donald Trump’s campaign chairman Paul Manafort, Rick Gates has also been indicted by Special Counsel Meuller.
Here is what we know about Rick Gates:
- Rick Gates is a longtime business associate of Paul Manafort
- Gates worked for the Trump campaign and acted as Manafort’s right-hand man during the Republican National Convention. He was a key part of the Trump campaign’s delegate operation working with Manafort.
- Gates’s name appears on documents related to Manafort’s business operations with a Russian billionaire.
- In June, The New York Times’ Nicholas Confessore and Barry Meier noted “As investigators examine Mr. Manafort’s financial and political dealings at home and abroad, they are likely to run into Mr. Gates wherever they look.”
- Rick Gates was in the White House as recently as March working on a pro-Trump super PAC.
- Also in June, The Daily Beast published a report on Rick Gates titled “Pro-Russian Lobbyist Is Lurking Around the White House.” And here is what The Daily Beast noted about Gates back in June: “Manafort may be under investigation for alleged Russia ties, and thus persona non grata at the Trump White House. However, his top deputy Gates—who also worked on behalf of Russian interests—has managed to wedge himself back into Trump-world. having landed a sweet new gig with one of President Donald Trump’s best and wealthiest friends.”
