Former Democrat Governor Jumps Into Tennessee Senate Race (Video)

Phil Bredesen may be Democrats best chance at picking up a Senate seat once thought out of reach.

The retirement of Republican Bob Corker of Tennessee posses all sorts of problems for the GOP majority in the Senate. Last week, Corker was the only Republican to vote against the GOP tax bill.

But perhaps the biggest problem for Republicans caused by Corker’s retirement is that suddenly the open Senate seat in Tennessee seems like a plausible Democratic pick up in 2018.

To be sure, Democrats face an uphill battle in the deep red state. But they do have a solid candidate with a strong history of winning elections in Tennessee.

Phil Bredesen, the former Democratic governor of the state, just announced he is running for the Senate.

Bredesen served as governor of Tennessee in 2003 through 2011. Before that, he served as mayor of Nashville from 1991 to 1999.
