Trump Interior Secretary Spent Thousands On Helicopter Rides For Self And Staff
Zinke used government helicopters to transport himself and staffers between events and locations near D.C.
Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke used government helicopters for himself and staffers to attend events near Washington D.C., Politico is reporting.
According to the report, the helicopter rides cost between more than $14,000.
The helicopter rides are another example of Trump administration officials using tax-payer money luxurious and unnecessary travel.
The report has echoes of Tom Price who spent over $1 million on private jet travel.
One trip noted in the Politico report was to a management exercise in Shepherdstown, West Virginia in June.
Zinke ordered a helicopter ride to the town, which is just two hours away from Washington, D.C., because he said his schedule would not allow him to leave Washington in time to drive.
In another trip, Zinke and another Interior Department official used a government helicopter to fly to and from Yorktown, Virginia in July. Zinke was attending a roundtable discussion with boating industry representatives and visited a site of future high-voltage electric transmission lines Politico noted.
