New Report Confirms Trump Knew Flynn Lied When He Pressed Comey
Looks like Mueller already has the evidence he needs to prove Trump obstructed justice.
This might be game over for Donald Trump.
A new report confirms that President Trump knew Michael Flynn had lied to the FBI when he pressured then-FBI Director James Comey to drop his investigation into Flynn.
The bombshell revelation was first reported by Foreign Policy Tuesday which reports that Trump’s White House Counsel Don McGahn immediately looking into whether the Flynn violated federal laws just days after Trump moved into the White House.
According to the report, “The White House turned over records this fall to special counsel Robert Mueller revealing that in the very first days of the Trump presidency, Don McGahn researched federal law dealing both with lying to federal investigators and with violations of the Logan Act, a centuries-old federal law that prohibits private citizens from negotiating with foreign governments.”
As FP points out the records confirm that the Trump White House Counsel knew that Flynn had broken the law.
The report is not just a bombshell because it reveals that the Trump White House knew that Flynn had broken the law, but also because it confirms that Mueller has documents proving it.
“The disclosure that these records exist and that they are in the possession of the special counsel could bolster any potential obstruction of justice case against President Donald Trump,” FP points out.
The report also reveals that Trump allowed Flynn to continue working as the national security adviser for 18 days after finding out that Flynn broke the law.
Also important to note is that “McGahn believed that Flynn, and possibly anyone who authorized or approved of such contacts, would be in potential violation of the Logan Act, according to two of the sources, both of whom work in the administration.”
