Despite Trump Sabotage, Obamacare Sign-Ups Match Last Year
About 9 million people signed up for Obamacare plans this year, nearly matching previous year.
Despite Donald Trump’s best efforts to sabotage Obamacare and block people from signing up for health care programs, sign-ups for President Obama’s landmark health care law essentially matched the previous year’s sign-ups.
About 9 million people signed up for health insurance coverage through the federal Obamacare exchanges for 2018 plans.
As a point of comparison, last year, 9.2 million people signed up for health insurance plans during the open enrollment period – which was twice as long.
Donald Trump cut the open enrolment period in half in an attempt to undermine the Affordable Care Act.
In the 39 states that use the federal exchange, healthcare.gov website, 8.8 million people enrolled during the six week open enrollment period, Seema Verma of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid tweeted Thursday.
Exchange open enrollment for 2018 coverage ended w/ approx 8.8M people enrolling in coverage. Great job to the @CMSGov team for the work you did to make this the smoothest experience for consumers to date. We take pride in providing great customer service.

In addition to cutting the enrollment period in half, the Trump administration also cut the outreach budget by 90 percent.
