Joe Arpaio, Racist Arizona Sheriff, Announces Senate Run
Sheriff Joe Arpaio announces bid to fill Jeff Flake’s Senate seat.
85-year-old former Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpaio announced Tuesday that he will run for Senate.
The controversial sheriff wants to fill the Senate seat being left open by retiring Senator Jeff Flake.
Thus far, Arpaio is the highest profile candidate to announce a run.
Arpaio was convicted of ignoring a federal court order in a racial-profiling case and sentenced to jail time, however, was pardoned by President Trump before serving jail time.
“I have a lot to offer. I’m a big supporter of President Trump,” Arpaio told the Washington Examiner.
“I’m going to have to work hard; you don’t take anything for granted. But I would not being doing this if I thought that I could not win. I’m not here to get my name in the paper, I get that everyday, anyway.”
