Republican Congressman Darrell Issa Won’t Run For Re-election, Will Retire
Issa was a top Democratic target in 2018 and his retirement increases the likelihood that Democrats will pick up the seat.
Congressman Darrell Issa will not seek re-election later this year and will instead retire from Congress.
Issa’s retirement opens up a key seat that Democrats are aiming to pick up.
Issa won re-election very narrowly and was expected to be a top Democratic target to flip the House.
Congressman Issa’s announcement comes on the heels of another prominent Republican serving Orage County, California to announce their retirement – Rep. Ed Royce announced earlier this week.
“While my service to California’s 49th District will be coming to an end, I will continue advocating on behalf of the causes that are most important to me, advancing public policy where I believe I can make a true and lasting difference, and continuing the fight to make our incredible nation an even better place to call home,” Issa said in the statement.
