Sure Looks Like Mueller Has Flipped Another Witness In Trump-Russia Case
Russia-linked lawyer, whose father in law is a Russian oligarch, is pleading guilty to lying to federal investigators.
Tuesday morning brought another indictment by Special Counsel Robert Mueller in the Trump Russia case.
Federal charging documents unsealed Tuesday revealed that attorney Alex Van Der Zwaan is being charged on a single charge of lying to the FBI about his communications with Trump campaign adviser Rick Gates and destroying evidence.
In the charging document that Mueller’s team filed in D.C. federal district court, Van Der Zwaan is charged with “did willfully and knowingly make materially false, fictitious, and fraudulent statements and representations” as he answered questions from the FBI regarding his work as an attorney at a law firm doing work for Ukraine.
Van Der Zwaan was until a year ago employed by a prominent law firm that just so happened to also employ Paul Manafort’s daughter.
The law firm was contracted by Paul Manafort to do significant work on behalf of the pro-Russia former Ukrainian president Viktor Yanukovych.
Additionally, Van Der Zwaan is the son in law of a Russian oligarch German Khan tied to Russia’s Alfa Bank.
Based on the single charge and the fact that Van Der Zwaan walked into court to plead guilty it sure looks like Mueller has another cooperating witness in the Trump-Russia case.
