Roger Stone Exchanged Direct Messages With WikiLeaks During Campaign: Report
This is the biggest news story you probably missed Tuesday.
Seems like a big deal.
Trump friend and longtime political confidant Roger Stone communicated directly with WikiLeaks during the election, according to a new report by Natasha Bertrand in the Atlantic.
The report reveals that Stone exchanged Direct Messages with WikiLeaks on Twitter during the 2016 campaign.
Despite the fact that Stone testified to Congress that he only communicated with WikiLeaks through an intermediary, Twitter direct messages obtained by The Atlantic show that Stone was in direct communication with WikiLeaks using Twitter Direct Messages in October 2016.
As the report notes, “Stone and Trump have been friends for decades, which raises key questions about what the president knew about Stone’s interactions with Wikileaks during the campaign.”
The messages that Bertrand obtained also revealed that WikiLeaks even tried to stay in contact with Stone after the election.
One day after the election, the WikiLeaks sent Stone a message saying, “Happy? We are now more free to communicate.”
