Poll: Democrat Leads By 6 Points In Pennsylvania Special Election
Trump won this district by 20 points in 2016.
With just one day to go in the hotly contested Pennsylvania special election, Democrat Conor Lamb is leading Republican Rick Saccone by 6 points.
According to the new Monmouth University poll, Lamb leads 51 percent to 45 percent.
Today’s results are a flip from last month when the Republican lead 49 to 46.
The poll also comes two days after President Trump visited the district to stump for Saccone.
The potential of a Democratic upset in the district is even more surprising because Pennsylvania’s 18th Congressional district is considered to be such a safe district for Republicans.
“This district has voted overwhelmingly Republican in recent elections, but a large number of these voters have blue-collar Democratic roots. Lamb seems to have connected with them,” said Patrick Murray, director of the independent Monmouth University Polling Institute.
The poll also found that the Democrat also has a higher favorability rating with 53 percent of voters saying the have a favorable opinion of Lamb compared to 47 percent for Saccone.
About the poll: The poll was sponsored and conducted by the Monmouth University Polling Institute from March 8 to 11, 2018 with a random sample of 372 likely voters in Pennsylvania’s 18th Congressional District. The poll has a margin of error of 5 points.
