Another Republican Just Announces His Retirement, He’s Blaming Trump
The district in the Philadelphia suburbs is a major pick up target for Democrats
Republican Congressman Ryan Costello announced he will not seek re-election in November.
The retirement is just the latest in a wave of Republican retirements ahead of the 2018 election.
Costello represents a district surrounding the Philadelphia suburbs which is a major target for Democrats in 2018.
And Costello puts the reason for his retirement squarely on President Trump.
“Whether it’s Stormy Daniels, or passing an omnibus spending bill that the president threatens to veto after promising to sign it, it’s very difficult to move forward in a constructive way today,” Costello told the Daily Local News, a West Chester, Pennsylvania, newspaper.
Democrats have the potential for major pickups in Pennsylvania
Democrats are targeting Pennsylvania after the state Supreme Court redrew the states Congressional map eliminating Republican gerrymandering. According to the nonpartisan Cook Political Report, Democrats have the potential to pick up between 3 to 5 seats in Pennsylvania with the new map.
Cook now puts Costello’s district as a likely pick up for Democrats from a toss-up before Costello announced his retirement.
