Grand Jury Has Subpoenaed Trump Organization’s Top Accountant
The Feds are moving in on the Trump Organization.
Allen Weisselberg, the Trump Organizations chief financial officer, has been subpoenaed by a federal grand jury.
According to the Wall Street Journal, Weisselberg is considered a key witness in the investigation of Trump’s business partner/fixer Michael Cohen.
Weisselberg has been Donald Trump’s bookkeeper for decades and is also thought to be a key witness in any financial crimes investigations against Trump.
Weisselberg’s name was heard on a secretly recorded audiotape released this week by Michael Cohen’s lawyers. In the tape, Michael Cohen mentions Weisselberg’s name in a conversation with Trump that Cohen secretly recorded in September 2016 where the two were discussing a hush money payout for the rights to the story of Playboy model Karen McDougal.
On the tape, Cohen tells Trump that he has consulted with Weisselberg about how to set up a shell company to make the payment.
Importantly, when Trump refused to put his assets in a blind trust he also put Weisselberg in charge of the Trump Organization’s operations alongside his sons. And according to The Wall Street Journal, Weisselberg is considered “the most senior person in the organization that’s not a Trump.”
“Mr. Weisselberg…has handled personal financial matters for Mr. Trump and has also been linked to payments made to two women who alleged they had sexual encounters with Mr. Trump,” the Journal went on to note.
