Prosecutors in the Southern District of New York have ordered Trump’s inauguration committee to turn over documents about its donors, finances, and activities.
According to a bombshell new report in the The New York Times, a lawyer working for the Trump inaugural committee received a subpoena on Monday seeking a range of documents, including ones related to the committee’s donors and event attendees.
The subpoena came from prosecutors working for the United States Attorney for Southern District of New York.
The New York Times report came after an earlier report from ABC News, that noted prosecutors in the Southern District of New York’s public corruption section reached out to the inaugural committee on Monday afternoon.
Prosecutors are interested in whether any foreign figures donated to the organization, and whether staffers on the committee were aware that it was illegal.
ABC News noted that Trump’s former personal attorney, Michael Cohen, has been repeatedly interviewed by prosecutors in the district as part of its probe.
Also of note is that Trump Organization Chief Financial Officer Allen Weisselberg has agreed to cooperate with the investigation.
