Mueller May Have Just Checkmated Trump By Working With NY Attorney General

According to Politico, special counsel Robert Mueller’s team has teamed up with New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman on its investigation into Paul Manafort.

This means two things. One, the investigation into Manafort is intensifying. Two, and most importantly, Trump does not have pardon power over state crimes.

Trump hasn’t said publicly that he will pardon Manafort, but he has talked to his advisers about his presidential pardon powers.

Now that Mueller has taken a possible pardon off the table, he could possibly use this as leverage to get Manafort to cooperate in the larger investigation into Trump’s campaign.

Both Mueller and Schneiderman are looking into Manafort’s financial transaction. According to a source close to the investigation, Manafort may be accused of money laundering and other financial crimes. Additionally. Mueller has been looking into Manafort’s real estate deals in New York.

No charges have been filed yet, and Manafort has refused to comment on the situation.
