POLL: West Virginians Like Democratic Senator More Than Trump
Trump had his highest margin of victory in the 2016 election in West Virginia – winning nearly 69 percent of the vote there.
However, he’s starting to lose support according to a MetroNews West Virginia poll – and the state’s Democratic Senator, Joe Manchin, is coming out ahead of Trump.
Fifty-one percent of West Virginia voters polled said they approved of Manchin, while 48 percent approved of Trump.
Manchin, who is the only Democrat from his state in Congress, faces reelection in 2018. And West Virginia is a predominately red state.
The state’s new governor, Jim Justice, who was elected in 2016, recently switched from the Democratic Party to the Republican. However, only 34 percent of voters polled saying they approved of the job he’s doing.
The Metro News West Virginia poll was conducted Aug. 11-20 among a sample size of 400 likely West Virginia voters, with a margin of error of plus or minus 4.9 percentage points.
