New Poll Has Good News For Democrats’ 2018 Chances
Democrats have an 11 point lead over Republicans in a 2018 generic ballot.
If the 2018 elections were held today, Democrats would likely take back control of Congress, according to the results of a new survey released Thursday.
Democrats have an 11 point lead in a generic congressional ballot, Public Policy Polling found in a recent poll.
The poll found that 48 percent of voters said they would vote for a Democrat running for Congress in their district, compared to just 37 percent who said they would vote Republican.
“Democrats have been winning a lot of elections in 2017,” said Dean Debnam, President
of Public Policy Polling. “And all indications are that they’re going to keep on winning a
lot of elections in 2018.”
And the poll had more bad news for Congressional Republicans. According to the PPP results, 76 percent said they disapprove of the job Congress is doing.
Democrats also have an edge in the intensity and excitement heading into 2018. According to the poll, 82 percent of Hillary Clinton voters said they would vote for a Democrat for Congress, while just 77 percent of Trump voters said they would vote for a Republican.
And 11 percent of Trump voters said they would vote for a Democrat, while just 6 percent of Hillary voters would vote Republican.
About the poll: The PPP survey was conducted among 865 registered voters from September 22 to 25 and has a margin of error of 3.3 percentage points.
