New Poll Finds Massive Lead For Democrats In 2018 Generic Ballot

Democrats have a 15 point lead over Republicans in the generic ballot.

A new poll released Wednesday had some very good news for people hoping for a Democratic wave in 2018.

According to the new Monmouth University Poll, Democrats have a whopping 15 point lead over Republicans in the generic 2018 ballot.

The poll found that 51 percent of registered voters said they would vote for or lean toward a Democratic candidate if the midterm elections were held today. At the same time, just 36 percent of voters said they would vote or lean Republican.

And the Republican-led Congress has pretty dismal approval ratings. According to the Monmouth poll, voters are extremely unhappy with the job Congress is doing. Just 16 percent saying they approve while 65 percent saying they disapprove.

The Monmouth poll also found some very good news for Democrats in districts around the country.

According to the poll, in counties where Trump won by at least 10 points in the presidential election, voters said they would vote for or lean toward the GOP candidate in 2018 by just a 7-point margin.

However, in counties where Hillary Clinton won by more than 10 points, Democrats have a massive 42-point lead.

A clear sign that Democrats have a significant enthusiasm advantage.

The poll also found that in swing counties, where Trump won by fewer than 10 points Democrats are leading by 3 points in the generic 2018 ballot.

The same Monmouth poll found that Donald Trump’s job approval rating has sunk to a record low of 32 percent.

About the poll: The Monmouth University Poll was conducted by telephone from December 10 to 12, 2017 with 806 adults in the United States. The results in this release have a margin of error of +/- 3.5 percent.
