Three Months Later, One-Third Of Puerto Rico Still Doesn’t Have Power
The Trump administration has created humanitarian disaster where there didn’t need to be one.
The Trump administrations disastrous response to Hurricane Maria continues to get worse.
Today, a full three months after the massive hurricane made landfall on the U.S. territory, one-third of the island is still without power.
And we are seeing concrete signs that the poor response by the Trump administrations is leading Puerto Ricans to leave the island and start new lives on the mainland U.S.
Thousands of businesses remain closed. And according to a new report by Bloomberg-Businessweek, about two-thirds of small businesses remain closed.
“For a decade, Puerto Rico has experienced a steady erosion of economic opportunity, and now there’s a fear that the storm has convinced too many residents, a critical mass, to pursue new livelihoods elsewhere,” Bloomberg notes.
