Mnuchin Spent $1 Million In Taxpayer Money On Private Military Flights
The Treasury Secretary’s trip to go watch the eclipse cost taxpayers $33,000.
Yet another senior member of the Trump administration has been racking up huge travel bills on the taxpayer dime.
According to a government watchdog, Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin spent nearly $1 million on seven military aircraft trips between the spring and fall of 2017.
That includes $33,000 in taxpayer funds on a trip to watch the eclipse.
Additionally, Mnuchin used a military aircraft on a June 15th, 2017 for a trip to and from Miami which cost $45,136. The trip cost at least $18,00 more than a normal private flight and over $41,000 more than a commercial flight.
The reason Mnuchin gave was that he needed to make a secure phone call during the flight which was just 2 and a half hours.
